A medical definition of a bad habit is: “A patterned behavior regarded as detrimental to one’s physical or mental health, which is often linked to a lack of self-control.” Of course, a bad habit need not be detrimental to your physical or mental health. You can spend too much time with emails, Facebook, Instagram, texting, video gaming, internet surfing, etc. to the detriment of activities that you really need to be engaged in, such as doing your job, talking with those around you or completing tasks that are really important.
Most advice about breaking bad habits involves one or more of the following general approaches:
- Substitute a good habit for a bad one.
- Avoid the situations that trigger the bad habit.
- Understand what triggers the bad habit.
- Penalize yourself for engaging in the bad habit.
- Set a goal of breaking the bad habit and make changes slowly.
These approaches can and do work for many people, who get rid of their bad habits over the course of weeks or months – if they have the persistence to stay with whatever habit-busting method they choose. However, most of the available advice for breaking bad habits makes no mention of identifying and destroying the source of the behavior that causes the behavior called a bad habit.
Something within you causes you to engage in the bad habit whenever you find yourself in certain situations. You feel compelled by something beyond your control to behave that way, even though you are aware that the behavior is not what is in your best interests or is not what you want. That something, the source of the behavior, resides in your unconscious where it safely operates well beyond the reach of your conscious thinking. If the source, called a pattern, were subject to your thinking, then all you would have to do is to say to yourself “Stop it!” and the bad habit would vanish instantly and forever. You have probably experienced just how effectively you drop a bad habit after hearing from yourself or someone else to just “Stop it!”.
Let’s look at that medical definition again. Note the phrase “A patterned behavior…” A patterned behavior is an action that you do again and again and feel powerless to stop completely and permanently. Patterns operate out of your conscious control and have been inherited from your family’s ancestors. A pattern is an energetic parasite that feeds on your upsetting emotions. It is the energetic analog of a tick or a flea, which are physical parasites. Whenever you find yourself in an anxiety-producing situation that triggers the pattern, the pattern gives rise to feelings that cause you to engage in the bad habit. Patterns have only one objective and that is their self-preservation at your expense.
So, the apparent solution to breaking a bad habit is to destroy the pattern or patterns that cause the bad habit. Once you have destroyed the pattern(s) causing the behavior, the bad-habit behavior vanishes quickly and permanently. There is no “will power”, rewarding, penalizing, substituting, affirming, goal setting, tapping, etc involved.
You may be asking if it really is that simple. I can assure you that, yes, it really is quite simple and we have seen remarkable, rapid behavioral changes when patterns are destroyed. Fortunately, destroying a pattern is easier than you think.
The reason I can make this statement is because thinking is an analytical function, which is of no use in the realm where patterns reside, the unconscious. You cannot consciously tell yourself to be calm, relaxed or peaceful in the middle of an upsetting http://pharmacy-no-rx.net situation. We have all tried, but I don’t know of anyone who has gotten a self-instruction to work. How, then, do you destroy an invisible, powerful pattern permanently? In order to destroy a pattern you will need a precision tool, guided by some experience.
It just so happens that you already have and always have had the tool you need to destroy any pattern quickly, easily and permanently. That tool is your imagination, which will do anything that you command it to do. And the imagination, which has complete and total access to the unconscious, can easily destroy any pattern that causes your upsetting feelings and unwanted behaviors – if you know how to use your imagination. (If you haven’t done so at this point, check out our page on patterns for a detailed explanation of what patterns do, the scientific evidence for their existences and operations, where they come from, and how to destroy them.)
I would very much like to tell you that reading our book, “Imagine All Better; Breaking Repeating emotional and Behavioral Patterns we All struggle With is Easier Than You THINK”, in which we describe just how to destroy patterns, will allow you to destroy patterns within you with no additional assistance.
Unfortunately, that’s not practical. Our work with thousands of clients over the past 40 years has shown us that patterns are exceptionally tricky when it comes to preserving themselves from annihilation. Since we cannot possibly handle all the requests for assistance, we did the next best thing and developed an app for your smartphone or tablet. The app contains all of the insights and experience we have gathered about how any pattern can possibly defend itself and uses that information to guide your imagination to successfully destroy any pattern.
The app has enjoyed a success rate of over 90% within an average 20-minute session. The first session generally lasts between 30 and 45 minutes. For the cost of a typical co-payment, $29.95, you can receive pattern-destroying benefits wherever you may be. In addition, the app has no need for any details of the issue that you wish to resolve, so there can be no record kept of what you are working on. We do keep an anonymous record of your age range and sex, which you do not have to enter in order to use the app. We do record how long you spent in the app and where you exited. We use this information to let us know how effective the app is and what improvements we need to make.
Now you know that patterns cause your bad habits and that you can destroy them easily and permanently.
